Windows error 126 may appear on your screen when some DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries) are missing or corrupted. This error may also occur when an application is trying to connect to database and required path is incorrect. When path of an application is incorrect then it cannot establish connection with database. Windows error 126 is linked with databases such as WinSQL, Oracle ODBC and Microsoft Oracle Driver.

There are various causes behind Windows error 126, in some cases when you try to open Desktop Engine MSI package (SqlRun01.msi) from one of the custom parent MSI packages.

In this situation you have to merge the components of Desktop Engine directly into SQL server 2000.

Fix Srvsvc.dll:

Windows error 126 may occur when DLL file Srvsvc.dll file is missing. In order to fix this error, you will have to extract original Srvsvc.dll from installation CD.

1. Insert Window installation CD.
2. Click on Start button and go to Run.
Type “expand <CD_drive>:\i386\srvsvc.dl_ C:\Windows\system32\srvsvc.dll” without quotes and press Enter. (Note! CD Drive is the drive letter for your CD drive)
3. Exit from command prompt and restart your system.

Scan System for Viruses:

Windows error 126 may occur when your system is infected with virus. To fix this problem run antivirus scan on your computer.

Update Drivers:

Outdated driver needs to be rectified in order to fix Windows error 126. To fix this problem right click on Computer || Select Properties || Click on Hardware || Device Manager || Select device || Right click on it || Check for updates.

Windows registry is root cause behind error 126 as it occurs due to problems in your system files in system registry. To keep your system free from fatal error you need to clean its registry.
